Tjoget in Stockholm's Hornstull blends rustic Mediterranean food with globally acclaimed cocktails across five distinct spaces since 2012.

The story

Tjoget, Stockholm – Mediterranean Restaurant & World-Class Cocktail Bar in Hornstull

Since opening its doors in 2012, Tjoget has become the cornerstone of Hornstull's transformation into one of Stockholm's most energetic neighborhoods. What started as a modern neighborhood restaurant has grown into something harder to categorize — and all the better for it. The White Guide recognizes it at Fine level, describing it as the "keystone in the entire sociopolitical hipster enclave" that defines Hornstull today. That kind of cultural weight is rare, and Tjoget wears it with ease.

Five Spaces, One Atmosphere

The venue is spread across five distinct sections: a dining room, a chambre séparée, a wine bodega, a beer café, and a cocktail bar. The design is, by intention, just rough enough to feel relaxed and just tight enough to always feel alive. The beer café pays homage to the old neighborhood with small plates, craft beer, and Czech-style Pilsner poured from Tankovna. The wine list leans European, ranging from easy French classics to more assertive Italian bottles. Each space invites a different version of the same good evening.

Mediterranean Food with a Rustic Edge

The kitchen draws on the Mediterranean region — southern Europe, northern Africa, and the Middle East — for its inspiration. The menu moves from snacks and small plates through to larger mains, keeping things unfussy and shareable. Boquerones with herb oil, marinated mussels with focaccia, a pizzetta bianca with zucchini and burrata, chistorra with pico de gallo — the cooking is direct and ingredient-led. Larger plates include a ribeye with tarragon mayonnaise and a sea bass with salsa verde. The Mediterranean thread runs through dessert too, with a lemon and basil granita rounding things out cleanly.

Cocktails That Built a Reputation

The bar is where Tjoget's global reputation was forged. Featured on The World's 50 Best Bars every year from 2016 through 2022, and a multiple winner at the Bartenders' Choice Awards and Norse Bar Show, it is one of the most decorated bars in Scandinavia. The house classics are the draw: Beets by Tjoget — beetroot, vodka, coconut, ginger, nutmeg — has become something of a signature, described by the White Guide as a "substantial vodka masterpiece." The broader cocktail menu pulls flavors from the same Mediterranean region that shapes the food, with sherry, citrus, and aromatic spice appearing across both seasonal and classic pours.

A Place That Means Something

Tjoget is also the parent of Tjoget Projects, a creative agency that builds beverage programs and operates several other Stockholm bars. But the Hornstull original remains the heart of it. The atmosphere — lively, heterogeneous, unpretentious — is the point. As the White Guide puts it: inside Tjoget, you feel like a more modern and aware version of yourself. An illusion, perhaps, but a very well-crafted one.

White Guide — Fine level

Those of us who still remember Borgargatan as a desolate, gloomy ravine between the looming, towering Högalid Church and the exhaust-gray Hornstull can only marvel. How did it end up like this – blissful? Tjoget plays a pivotal role in this metamorphosis, for it is the very cornerstone of the entire socio-political hipster enclave we now associate with Hornstull. It’s an understatement to claim that Tjoget single-handedly raised the square-meter price in the area by ten thousand. Inside Tjoget, you feel like a more modern, conscious person. It’s an illusion, of course, but it works. This is Tjoget’s greatness. The mood. The whole place is brilliantly designed—just rough enough to be relaxed, and just tight enough to always feel full. Alcohol is the fuel that powers the joint, and while the clientele is a wonderfully eclectic mix of hipsters, you can still choose your identity based on your drink. One day you might be a malt enthusiast poring over a solid beer selection, ranging from bold IPAs to silky pilsners, in the rowdiest corner of the bar; the next, you’re sipping wine from a broad, predominantly European list that stretches from effortlessly chic French classics to playful, volcanic Italian reds. But Tjoget’s real masterpiece lies in its world-renowned cocktails. It’s practically a faux pas not to order the idiosyncratic Beets by Tjoget—a robust vodka masterpiece built around beets, coconut, nutmeg, and fiery ginger. It’s damn good. The food leans rustic Mediterranean, usually with a distinctly French pedigree. Think Marseille. The kitchen moves fast, and the brisk pace occasionally leads to minor slip-ups. The lamb chops are a bit overcooked. The duck liver gets overshadowed by the tart cherries, but the socca with squid is a blast. The chickpea flatbread boasts a crisp edge and a satisfyingly chewy center. The spelt risotto, paired with creamy chèvre and crunchy radishes, is another solid pick. Raise your glass and revel in being right in the thick of it—the debate, the movement, pushing toward the future—and toast to yet another round at the bar.
