The story
Washoku TOMO makes no grand claims. Their own words are refreshingly plain: “We just serve rightful Japanese food at rightful price.” That straightforward ethos is the foundation of everything they do. In a small space on Timmermansgatan, the restaurant offers a single, focused omakase menu – a sushi kaiseki that moves through otsumami (small dishes), nigiri, and dessert. The price is fixed at 1095 kr, and the sake pairing changes with the season.
The dining room holds just nine seats at the bar, plus a window counter and a sofa for four. It is intimate by design. Guests are asked to avoid perfume and cologne – sushi is delicate, and the experience is meant to be pure. The reservation system is equally direct: bookings open on the first of the month for the following month, and cancellations must be made at least 24 hours in advance.
In 2026, Washoku TOMO earned a Michelin Recommended distinction. The guide recognizes restaurants that offer good food at a reasonable price, and this one fits that description precisely. The restaurant also carries the tag “Notable Sake List” – a nod to the seasonal sake pairing and the careful selection of beverages by the glass and non-alcoholic options.
There is no telephone. Communication happens by email or Instagram DM. The focus remains on the food and the counter, where the kitchen serves rightful Japanese cuisine without fuss.
