The story

Guldkaggen by Allegrine in Visby: Mediterranean Dining at Burgsvik Harbour

The kitchen and its founders

Guldkaggen by Allegrine in Visby builds its Mediterranean cooking around ingredients the team genuinely prefers. Robin and Axel guide the daily service while Danyel Couet shapes the broader concept. The menu leans toward French American sensibilities rather than strict regional tradition. They prepare everything from scratch using produce they trust, a discipline recognized by their recent White Guide fine level selection.

Fire grilled plates and seasonal staples

Jättegrillade räkor arrive with a sharp aioli that cuts through the sweetness. Pissaladière topped with whitefish roe sits alongside crème fraîche for texture. A rotisserie chicken turns slowly over heat until the skin crisps completely. Wood ovens also bake thin crust tarte flambée and hearty wraps throughout the summer season.

Harbour light and open air dining

Tables cluster along a wide veranda that catches the evening sun over the dock. An open kitchen runs beneath the grill smoke so guests watch the cooks work directly. Lounge seating and boules fill the garden when the weather holds. Live bands play across the summer months and Friday night clubs extend into late hours, drawing a steady crowd to the water.

White Guide — Fine level

Location, location, location. What does it matter if the place is a bit shabby and worn inside when it boasts a veranda soaking up peak evening sun with views of the pier, beach, and sunset? A prime people-watching spot front row center where everyone from hippie types to Gucci-clad trendsetters can watch and be watched. Further draws include the outdoor kitchen with music drifting from behind the grill and the speakers, and the lounge atmosphere in the garden complete with boules and sofas. Tired of Gotlandic ingredients and the ever-present smoked shrimp? Look no further; this is where international cuisine takes center stage, and except for bagged chips with dip, hardly anything on the menu gives away our location. We also dare to promise that the wine list boasts the largest champagne selection on South Gotland. Danyel Couet knows exactly how to hone his craft to draw crowds, and the French-American vibe on the menu fits the concept like a glove. Beautifully grilled giant prawns with aioli, pissaladière with whitebait roe and crème fraîche, and minute steak with béarnaise and fries naturally sell like hotcakes, just like the rotisserie chicken. Lighter summer fare like Niçoise and Caesar salads are also on the menu, and from the wood-fired oven come various wraps and tarte flambée.
