The story
Klostergasthaus Löwen is a warm, family-run inn in the village of St. Urban, near Langenthal. It combines a traditional gasthaus with a fine-dining experience in its gourmet stube, Negral. The restaurant is recognised by the Michelin Guide as Recommended and has recently been awarded 16 points by Gault Millau.
Host Pascal Schwarz set out to give St. Urban and the surrounding region its local pub back – a place to feel at home. His motto: “Wer aufhört, besser zu werden, hat aufgehört, gut zu sein” (who stops improving has stopped being good). Together with head chef Marcel Neuenschwander, the team focuses on honest, regional products, prepared with respect for nature and a genuine love for flavour.
In the Negral, guests choose from 6, 8, or 10 courses, each a carefully composed expression of fusion and international cuisine. The cooking blends traditional influences with global techniques, always centred on the joy of eating. A curated wine pairing, selected by Pascal, accompanies each menu. The atmosphere is relaxed and personal – every guest is treated as a VIP.
Whether in the main dining room or the intimate Negral, the focus is on creating memorable moments. The kitchen works with local farmers, bakeries, and dairies, sourcing ingredients from the region and beyond. The result is a cuisine that is both refined and approachable, earning the restaurant its Michelin Recommended status and the praise of Gault Millau. At Klostergasthaus Löwen, enjoyment is not a luxury – it is the everyday standard.
