The story
In the centre of Langenthal, a stately villa built around 1870 has been transformed into the Boutique Hotel Auberge. The building, a protected monument, blends its original neo-classical and neo-baroque details with simple, contemporary furnishings. Since August 2019, hosts Kathrin Spillmann and Andri Casanova have run the house. Spillmann is a certified sommelier, and Casanova, a trained chef, previously worked at Restaurant Adelboden under Franz Wiget.
The restaurant L'Auberge is the hotel’s culinary heart, serving a cuisine that is a refined mix of Mediterranean and Modern French influences. The kitchen here has earned 14 Gault-Millau points, a recognition woven into the restaurant’s identity. The dining room is open for lunch and dinner from Tuesday to Saturday, and the team regularly hosts themed evenings—a recent one featured a five-course menu exploring German cuisine with matching wines.
Beyond the plates, the Auberge operates a unique workplace integration project for people with mental health challenges, in partnership with the Swiss disability insurance scheme. This social mission is part of the hotel’s fabric, adding depth to every meal served in its elegant dining room.
