The story
Perched at 1,550 meters above sea level on the legendary Mount Rigi, Bistro by Regina Montium is part of the Kräuterhotel Edelweiss, a retreat run by the Egger Vörös family. The restaurant’s philosophy is rooted in what they call “Naturküche” – natural cuisine that draws heavily from the hotel’s own herb garden. This is not a concept, the team insists; it is a way of life.
The kitchen here has earned serious recognition. It holds a Michelin Star for high-quality cooking, alongside a Bib Gourmand for good value, and has been awarded 16 points by GaultMillau. The restaurant is also a member of Slow Food Switzerland, a testament to its commitment to regional, sustainable ingredients.
The atmosphere is one of generous hospitality, set against a backdrop of idyllic, almost mythical landscapes and panoramic views. Guests can enjoy the refined Swiss cuisine in the main dining room, on the outdoor terrace, or during special events like the Gourmet Sunday and the Tafelrunde (round table) dinners. The bistro setting keeps the experience welcoming and unpretentious, while the cooking remains precise and deeply connected to the surrounding alpine environment.
Whether you come for a set lunch, a private party, or a leisurely dinner, the food is built around what grows in the hotel’s own garden and what the region provides. The result is a menu that changes with the seasons, always rooted in the flavors of the Rigi.
