The story
Just outside Nyon, in the village of Chéserex, Auberge Les Platanes occupies an elegant patrician house dating from the 17th century. Inside, the restaurant offers three distinct atmospheres: the hushed, wood-panelled Salle Mont Blanc with its golden sconces; the convivial Bistrot, where antique sewing machines have been repurposed as tables; and the Salle Vieux Collège, ideal for larger gatherings. In warmer months, two flower-filled, shaded terraces open in the heart of the village.
For over three decades, the house specialty has been the steak tartare — a dish that has become a rite of passage. The beef is cut by hand and then, in a ritual unique to the house, it is marinated tableside by Ivana according to each diner's preference: spicy, herbaceous, or bold. Served with house-made fries and toast, this tartare has carried the restaurant's reputation far beyond the Vaud coast, earning a mention in the Michelin Guide.
Chef Tony Novais leads the kitchen, composing a classic French cuisine rooted in the seasons. The menu features Lake Léman fish according to the catch, aged bone-in meats, and, in autumn, irresistible game menus. The set lunch menu offers a refined, accessible way to experience the house's savoir-faire. Whether you come for the legendary tartare or a full multi-course dinner, the cooking here is generous, precise, and unpretentious — a true classic French restaurant on the Côte vaudoise.
