The story
SALZHAUS sits on Landhausquai in the heart of Solothurn’s car-free old town, directly on the River Aare. The restaurant calls this stretch the Solothurner Riviera – and the warm light bouncing off the Baroque facades does evoke the Mediterranean. Inside, the mood is relaxed but precise, a place for lunch, dinner, or a drink at the bar.
Kitchen chef Christian Härtge leads the team. His cooking is described as Salzhaus Fusion-Küche: classic dishes rethought with Asian accents. The menu draws on fresh, primarily regional ingredients and changes regularly. On Thursdays, a separate Japanese Fusion menu is offered, ranging from sushi to Japanese-inspired meat and fish dishes. This contemporary, international approach has earned the restaurant a consistent following – and, in 2026, a Michelin Bib Gourmand award for good quality at good value.
The kitchen’s skill lies in balancing familiar flavours with surprising touches – a lunchtime box, a bar snack, or a full dinner all reflect the same care. The wine list focuses on high-quality Swiss and French producers, with selections from Maison Carrée in Auvernier and Georg Fromm Weine in Malans. The space also hosts private events, from birthdays to corporate dinners.
Whether you come for the Thursday Japanese night or for a quiet meal by the Aare, SALZHAUS offers a confident, unpretentious take on contemporary fusion cooking that stays with you.
