The story
Opened in 1993 by a Chinese Indonesian family, Sate House (also known as Rock Corner) has earned a loyal following for its authentic Indonesian cuisine. The owners’ deep knowledge of their homeland’s cooking traditions drove them to create a restaurant where every dish reflects the true flavors of Indonesia.
Unlike the hot and sour notes of some Southeast Asian cuisines, Indonesian cooking at Sate House emphasizes the careful blend of spices, rich sauces, and precise heat control. Each spice is sourced from Indonesia and ground in-house, never from pre-made mixes. This labor-intensive approach yields dishes that are layered, aromatic, and deeply satisfying.
Sate House’s Beef Rendang (巴東牛肉) was named the world’s number one dish by CNN in 2012. Slow-cooked for hours with coconut milk and a complex mix of spices, it delivers a tender, intensely flavored experience. Other menu highlights include satay skewers, gado-gado, and nasi goreng, all prepared with the same dedication to authenticity.
The restaurant has been consistently recognized by the Michelin guide, earning a Bib Gourmand from 2021 to 2024 and being selected for the Michelin Guide Taiwan in 2025. It has also catered events for the Indonesian representative office and been invited to the Presidential Palace, a testament to its standing as a premier destination for Indonesian cuisine in Taipei.
Sate House maintains a low-key, unpretentious style, letting the food speak for itself. Located on Leli Road in Da’an District, the restaurant offers a warm, family-run setting for lunch and dinner. The quiet confidence of the kitchen and the welcoming service make every meal feel like a genuine taste of Indonesia.
