The story
Baan Tepa is a Thai contemporary restaurant in Bangkok that earned two Michelin stars in 2026—a recognition of its refined, thoughtful cooking. Chef-owner Tam Chudaree Debhakam is the first Thai female chef to achieve this distinction, and in 2025 she was named Asia's Best Female Chef by Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants. Her path to the kitchen began with a degree in Nutrition and Food Science, followed by training at the International Culinary Center in New York and formative years at Blue Hill at Stone Barns, where farm-driven, responsible cooking became central to her approach.
The restaurant occupies a historic house that has been in Chef Tam’s family for three generations, originally owned by her grandmother, Lady Suwaree Debhakam. “Baan” means home in Thai; “Tepa” comes from the family name Debhakam. The compound has been transformed into an urban food space while preserving its classic character. Three sections make up the experience: Tepa Kitchen, Tepa Garden, and the house itself. The grounds include an edible garden that supplies ingredients and reflects the restaurant’s commitment to sustainability.
Baan Tepa’s philosophy rests on three pillars: knowledge, reimagination, and regeneration. The kitchen explores indigenous ingredients, Thai food traditions, and the origins of its cuisine. Signature dishes like “Dong Dang” reinterpret a traditional noodle-making technique from Udon Thani, evolving with ingredients such as ricotta miso, black squid ink, and salted duck egg. “Crab Crab Crab” showcases the diversity of Thai crabs—Blue Swimmer from Surat Thani, Rice Field Crab Coral from Lamphun, Black Crab Miso from Sakon Nakhon, and Soft Shell Crab Garum from Trang.
The tasting menu is a seven-course journey, priced at 6,200 THB per person (excluding service and VAT). Each course is presented and explained by the chef’s team, turning dinner into an interactive exploration of Thai regions and native ingredients.
Baan Tepa on Tour, launched in 2023, takes the team across Thailand to learn from local communities and share knowledge through food. The garden is more than a source of produce—it hosts an annual Tepa Garden Market that brings together farmers, chefs, and guests to celebrate Thai ingredients. The restaurant is currently closed for renovation until August 2026, with plans to reopen with a new chapter. A special pop-up is scheduled for July 2026 at a different location.
