The story
Just north of Bangkok, in Nonthaburi, Dhabkwan occupies a serene compound of eight traditional Thai houses, each built from aged teak. The name itself carries meaning: “Dhab” translates to house, “kwan” to auspiciousness or good fortune. Together, the restaurant and resort evoke the spirit of a bygone Thai home, where peace and elegance are woven into every corner.
The grounds function as a living museum, planted with native species such as pikul and bunnak trees, whose fragrance drifts through the air. This setting—quiet, green, and deeply Thai—provides the backdrop for a dining experience that has earned Dhabkwan a Michelin Recommended award for 2026.
The kitchen draws on the refined repertoire of royal Thai cuisine, known as tamrub wang. The menu highlights include signature dishes such as nam prik long ruea—a harmonious dip of sweet, sour, salty, and spicy notes, served with both boiled and fresh vegetables. Another standout is miang glip bua luang, lotus-petal wraps filled with savoury-sweet toppings, a delicate alternative to the more common betel-leaf version.
For those seeking deeper flavours, gaeng kua krathon moo yang—a santol curry with roasted pork—balances herbal curry paste with the fruit’s gentle tartness. The prik king plah dook foo presents crispy catfish floss stir-fried with chilli paste, a classic “pantry” dish meant to be spooned over hot rice. Each plate reflects the restaurant’s commitment to authentic Thai cuisine, prepared with care and respect for tradition.
Dhabkwan is more than a restaurant: it is a full-service resort offering accommodation, private dining, weddings, and corporate events. The traditional houses, surrounded by lotus ponds and manicured gardens, create an atmosphere that feels both luxurious and unhurried. Whether you come for a leisurely lunch or a multi-course dinner, the experience is grounded in Thai hospitality and the calm of a countryside estate—yet it remains just a short drive from central Bangkok.
