The story
In the heart of Bangkok’s Ekkamai district, Gen (Vadhana) brings the spirit of a Kyoto old private house to Thailand. This charcoal-grill restaurant, located inside the ACMEN Complex, is designed to evoke a sense of warmth and tradition. The interior features counter dining and private rooms, with air conditioning ensuring comfort year-round.
Gen’s team is dedicated to authenticity. They transport fresh fish by aircraft from Japan and import Hitachi Beef from Ibaraki prefecture. But the commitment goes further: the kitchen makes almost everything from scratch. Sauces, dressings, desserts, and even ice cream are prepared in-house, avoiding store-bought or ready-made seasonings. As they put it, the goal is to “provide safe and reliable meals, to value the excellence of the ingredients, and to pursue a taste that only our restaurant can offer.” This meticulous approach is why Gen has earned a Michelin Recommended award, a recognition that speaks to the quality of their Japanese cuisine in Bangkok.
The menu is divided into a Grand Menu, a Signature Menu, and a Drink Menu, all available as PDFs for browsing. Standout offerings naturally include charcoal-grilled items, where the binchotan fire enhances the natural flavors of premium seafood and beef. The restaurant also boasts a notable sake list, perfect for pairing with the subtle, smoky dishes. For those who prefer to dine at home, Gen offers delivery through GrabFood and LINE.
Gen (Vadhana) is a place where the precision of Japanese cooking meets the warmth of a neighborhood grill, making it a destination for those seeking genuine Japanese cuisine in Bangkok.
