Khum Hom Bangkok: Michelin-Recommended Contemporary Thai Cuisine by Chef Ian Kittichai

Khum Hom: Contemporary Thai Cuisine in Bangkok

Since opening in 2020, Khum Hom has become a destination for those seeking a refined take on Thai cuisine. Located on the lobby floor of the Mövenpick BDMS Wellness Resort, the restaurant has earned a place in the Michelin Guide Thailand 2026 as a recommended restaurant, a recognition that speaks to its consistent quality and thoughtful approach.

The name itself reveals the restaurant’s philosophy: “Khum” means a bite-sized portion, and “Hom” means aromatic. Diners can expect dishes that are both fragrant and full of flavour, presented in a style that is light and vibrant. The kitchen is overseen by Chef Ian Kittichai, an award-winning chef and television personality known for his contemporary approach to gastronomy.

A Menu Rooted in Thailand’s Regions

The menu at Khum Hom is a journey across Thailand’s four main regions: North, Northeast, Central, and South. The team works closely with local farmers and producers to source premium ingredients, honouring tradition while embracing a modern, health-conscious philosophy that aligns with the resort’s wellness ethos.

The a la carte menu is structured by course, featuring sections for starters, soups, curries, mains, vegetarian options, and desserts. A set tasting menu is also available for those who wish to experience the full breadth of the kitchen’s vision.

Signature Dishes and Standout Flavours

Several dishes highlight the restaurant’s skill in balancing tradition with a contemporary touch. The signature dish, Saeng Wa Goong Mae-Nam Pla Fu, is inspired by the Southern Thai “Yum Tai Pla.” It features grilled Tapi-river prawns and crispy freshwater seabass, tossed with aromatic herbs like ginger, lemongrass, and kaffir lime leaves for a vibrant contrast of textures.

Other notable plates include Mhee Pak Panang, a stir-fried noodle dish with a delicate balance of sweetness and tang, and Yum Hua Plee Pla Fu, a banana blossom salad with a smoky chili dressing. For dessert, Kanom Ta Yab offers a nostalgic Thai sweet: pandan-hued dumplings filled with palm-sugar-caramelised young coconut, served with Sankaya custard and a lightly salted coconut cream sauce.

Overlooking lush gardens, Khum Hom provides a setting that is both elegant and welcoming, making it a fitting choice for anyone looking to explore contemporary Thai cuisine in Bangkok.
