The story
Nusara is named after Chef Thitid “Ton” Tassanakajohn’s grandmother. As he and his brother Tam recall, she raised them, cooked for them, and instilled their love for good food. After she passed, opening this restaurant became a way to keep her close. Every dish at Nusara is a memorial to her.
Chef Ton is one of Thailand’s most celebrated chefs. After earning an economics degree, he trained at the Culinary Institute of America and worked at Michelin-starred restaurants in New York, including Eleven Madison Park and The Modern. He also holds a sommelier certification. Today, he runs several acclaimed Bangkok restaurants, and Nusara is a standout. In 2026, it earned a Michelin star—a testament to its refined cooking.
Chef Ton describes the food at Nusara as “Colorful Thai Cuisine.” It is neither traditional nor modern, but something unique. The flavors are meant to reflect his grandmother’s personality—old but joyful—and the Ta Tien neighborhood, where modern Bangkok meets history. The meal begins with playful bites and progresses into main courses served family style, encouraging sharing. This is Thai contemporary cooking at its most personal and inventive.
Nusara’s accolades extend beyond its Michelin star. It debuted at No.3 on Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants list in 2023 and won the Art of Hospitality Award in 2024. It was also named one of the World’s Most Beautiful Restaurants by Prix Versailles. The space itself, set in the historic heart of Bangkok, blends the old and new, creating a warm, intimate backdrop for an evening of color and flavor.
