The story
Set within the tranquil grounds of the Four Seasons Resort Chiang Mai, Khao offers a dining experience that draws from the full breadth of Thailand’s culinary traditions. The restaurant’s name means “rice” in Thai, a fitting nod to the staple that anchors every meal here.
The menu at Khao is built around classic recipes presented in a refined, contemporary style. It is a celebration of the country’s regional diversity, from the aromatic curries of the north to the lighter, herb-laced dishes of the south. The kitchen’s signature dishes speak directly to this approach: Hoi Shell Klang Na, spicy roasted scallops with mango and crispy rice salad; Pla Kapong Neung Manao, steamed Gulf of Thailand sea bass with lime and garlic; and the beloved Khao Soi Gai, Chiang Mai curry noodles with chicken — a dish that has become synonymous with the city itself.
The atmosphere is as considered as the food. Guests can dine indoors in air-conditioned comfort or on the terrace, surrounded by the resort’s lush gardens. The bar serves cocktails and an afternoon tea that highlights seasonal Thai fruits, such as the Thai Mango Heritage Afternoon Tea.
Khao’s commitment to authentic flavours and elegant presentation earned it a Michelin Recommended distinction in 2026. It is a place where the depth of Thai cuisine is honoured without pretension, and where every dish tells a story of the country’s rich culinary landscape.
