The story
For decades, Guang Tang Noodles has been a fixture in Khon Kaen, a noodle shop that locals return to again and again. The restaurant has earned a Michelin Recommended award for 2026, a fitting recognition for its consistent, honest cooking.
The star is the house-made egg noodles, which have a distinct texture and shape. Served dry (haeng) or in soup, they come topped with red pork (mu daeng), crispy pork belly (mu krob), or wontons. Many regulars order the ba mee mu daeng haeng – dry egg noodles with red pork – and add a drizzle of the shop’s special sweet red sauce for an extra layer of flavor. The wonton soup and the rad na (gravy noodles) are also popular choices, with the latter served over crispy wontons or tender beef.
The atmosphere is straightforward and welcoming, typical of a shophouse eatery: open, clean, and unpretentious. Customers note that the noodles are cooked soft, with a gentle seasoning that lets the quality of the ingredients speak. The red pork is notably good, and the crispy pork belly is a highlight.
Guang Tang Noodles also has a history of operating in hospital cafeterias, and the original branch was located inside the Saen Samran Hotel. On Tuesdays and Fridays, they offer a special noodle dish that draws long queues. It’s a place that rewards a simple, well-made bowl of noodles – and a stop that makes sense for anyone exploring the food of Khon Kaen.
