The story
What began in 1984 as a temporary noodle stall has become one of Khon Kaen’s most loved eateries. Leng Yentafo started quietly on Klang Mueang Road, serving yen ta fo – the distinctive Thai pink noodle soup – to passersby. Word spread, and the stall never left. Today it operates from a shophouse, with outdoor tables for a classic street-side feel and an air-conditioned room inside for those who prefer cool comfort.
Yen ta fo is the star here. The broth arrives a vivid pink-red, balanced with a savoury-sweet edge. What sets Leng apart is the attention to the condiments: a strikingly fresh red chilli powder, crisp roasted peanuts, and clean pickled chilli vinegar – each element lets you tailor the bowl exactly to your taste. The fish balls and fish dumplings are made in-house, springy and full of flavour. Some contain tiny shrimp hidden inside. Regulars order extra plates of just-poached fish balls and crispy fried taro to go alongside.
In 2026, Michelin awarded Leng Yentafo a Bib Gourmand – their mark for good quality, good value cooking. It’s a fitting nod to a place that has kept its standards high and its prices low (most dishes come in under 100 baht). Whether you choose the dry version with its concentrated sauce or the soupy tom yum style, this is yen ta fo made with real intent. The shop stays open until late, serving the same honest bowls that have drawn diners for four decades.
