The story
On Mittraphap Road in Nakhon Ratchasima, Krua Suwimol has long been the go-to spot for late-night rice porridge and stir-fries. The restaurant is enormous – a sprawling open-sided pavilion with a visible kitchen where woks flare, plus air-conditioned rooms for cooler dining. Parking is ample, and the place hums with energy, especially during peak hours. It’s the kind of restaurant that feeds families, groups of friends, and anyone with a serious appetite.
The menu leans heavily on Thai Chinese classics: stir-fried greens, crispy pork belly, and a variety of seafood. Dishes arrive in portions that surprise first-timers – order cautiously. Favorites among regulars include the fried chicken drumsticks with fish sauce (nong kai tod nam pla), crispy and juicy; a punchy oyster salad (yam hoy nang rom); and crab meat stir-fried with curry powder (pu nim pad pong kari), loaded with fresh crab. The jup chai (mixed vegetable soup) and fried catfish salad (yam pla duk foo) are also frequently praised. Rice porridge (khao tom) anchors the meal, served with a choice of sides.
