The story
In the heart of Beyoğlu’s Asmalımescit district, Gün Lokantası brings a modern sensibility to Turkish cuisine. The restaurant describes itself as a place where “traditional flavors meet modern culinary creativity,” and that philosophy is evident from the first bite.
The open kitchen is central to the experience, designed with natural materials that create a warm, inviting atmosphere. Guests can watch the cooking unfold, seeing the care that goes into each dish. The menu changes with the seasons, built around locally sourced ingredients, and is divided into cold and warm starters, salads, and mains from land and sea.
Cold starters include blue tail shrimp ceviche, tarama with vine leaves, and poached lamb brain. Warm options range from lamb neck croquettes with spicy mayonnaise to grilled pepper with pastırma, the Turkish air-cured beef. From the sea, expect grilled sea bass with sour grape pickles and Aegean herbs, or jumbo shrimp on artichoke puree. From the land, lamb Karski comes with firik (smoked bulgur) and purple basil, while grilled beef chops are paired with mushroom jus and mustard.
Desserts are simple and satisfying: profiterole, panna cotta with quince marmalade, or grilled strawberries with pudding. A cheese platter features Divle obruk and Kargı tulum cheeses alongside marmalade, pickles, and olives.
Gün Lokantası has earned a Michelin Recommended distinction for 2026, a recognition of its refined yet unfussy approach to modern Turkish cooking. It’s a place where the food speaks for itself, and the atmosphere invites you to stay awhile.
