The story
The Red Balloon opened in 2022 in Yeniköy with a clear intention: to create a kitchen that works quietly. Hidden from noise. Focused on season, product, and discipline. That ethos remains at its new home on İstiklal Street, inside the Mr Cas Hotel in Beyoğlu. Founder Pınar Erdoğan built the restaurant around a personal approach to hospitality: warmth without excess, precision without rigidity, comfort balanced with control.
The cuisine is rooted in the Mediterranean and the Aegean. The kitchen works with seasonal, local ingredients, using technique only when it serves the product. Every dish exists for a reason. From the beginning, the team expanded into foraging, fermentation, and dedicated innovation — layers that deepen the kitchen’s understanding of its ingredients. The result is a focused, restrained cooking style that lets the produce speak.
Meals at The Red Balloon unfold slowly. Service is attentive and unobtrusive, leaving space for conversation and memory. The tasting menu, described as an evening told in six courses, changes with the season. Recent offerings have included a potato brioche with lemon butter, amberjack crudo with green apple and fennel, charred artichoke with fava bean hummus, and lamb loin with caramelized celeriac purée and red plum jus. A selection of Turkish wines accompanies the menu.
For private gatherings, the team curates a bespoke tasting experience with the same seasonal approach and attention to detail.
The Red Balloon’s quiet intensity has not gone unnoticed. The restaurant earned a Bib Gourmand in 2024 and was listed in the Michelin Guide for both Istanbul and Bodrum in 2025. In 2026, it received a Michelin Recommended distinction for its Beyoğlu location. Gault&Millau has recognized the restaurant for Modern Cuisine, and İncili Gastronomi awarded it four pearls. These honours reflect a kitchen that works with discipline and sincerity — one that values the ingredient above all else.
