The story
Perched above Pigeon Valley in the village of Uçhisar, Moniq Restaurant brings a refined, locally-rooted approach to Turkish cuisine. The restaurant is part of Taskonaklar Hotel, a property that began in 2005 when the owner’s mother, Monique, fell in love with a ruin bearing a grapevine. That vine still grows on site, and the restaurant that now bears her name is the hotel’s crowning touch.
The kitchen focuses on regional dishes built from ingredients sourced as close to home as possible. The menu changes seasonally and includes daily specials based on the freshest produce available. Vegetarian and vegan options are a priority, and the team is happy to accommodate other dietary needs. The restaurant also works with local women, giving them a platform to share their culinary skills and traditions.
The dining room and terrace overlook the valley, and guests can also choose al fresco seating in the garden. For a more private experience, Moniq offers candlelit dinners in a historical cave or barbecue dinners in the valley, with transport by a classic Land Rover Defender. A cocktail bar serves drinks with the same panoramic view.
Moniq’s commitment to authentic, locally-driven cooking earned it a place in the Michelin Guide as a Recommended restaurant for 2026 — a recognition that underscores its role among the best dining options in Cappadocia for those seeking genuine Turkish cuisine in an elegant setting.
