The story
On the northern shore of Lake Bafa, in the village of Kapıkırı near Sarıkemer, Agora Pansiyon has been welcoming guests since 1987. This is a place that asks you to forget the city and wake up to a different day. The setting is quiet and green, next to the ancient city of Heracleia, with the Latmos Mountains rising behind. Here, the restaurant is the heart of the experience.
The kitchen is run by Özgün, the mother of the family, who cooks with a philosophy rooted in seasonality, sustainability, and authenticity. Her Turkish cuisine draws directly from the region’s deep agricultural traditions. The menu changes with the seasons and features coğrafi işaretli (geographically indicated) specialties such as Milas Vekilharcı and Milas Ekşili Köfte. The pantry is built around local staples, most notably the EU-registered (PDO) Milas Memecik olive oil, which appears in many dishes.
Agora Pansiyon’s food earned a Bib Gourmand from Michelin in 2026, a recognition that highlights good quality, good value cooking. It is an award that fits naturally here: the cooking is honest, precise, and deeply connected to the land. There are no unnecessary flourishes, just clear, confident flavors that speak of the lake, the mountains, and the generations of cooks who came before.
Dining at Agora is an unhurried affair. Meals are served in a relaxed setting, often outdoors, with views of the lake and the ancient stone walls. The pansiyon also offers simple, comfortable rooms and bungalows—free of televisions, but with a well-stocked library—so you can stay overnight and wake up to the same calm that defines the food.
For those who want to explore, the area offers walks in the Latmos range, rich in archaeology and striking rock formations. But the real draw is the table: a genuine taste of Turkish cuisine, shaped by place and memory, and recognized by one of the world’s most exacting guides.
