The story
Since 1998, Hutorets na Dnipri has been a Kyiv destination for Ukrainian cuisine. Situated in the historic Podil district, the restaurant’s location on the Naberezhno-Hreshchatytska embankment offers a direct view of the Dnipro River. The atmosphere is divided across several distinct halls: the Ukrainian night hall with panoramic windows, the Mountain Hall with an open fire where guests watch trout, meat, and vegetables cook, and the Steppe hall with its traditional Carpathian stove. In summer, a large terrace opens right over the water, providing a cool escape.
The chef’s team is deeply committed to Ukrainian culinary traditions, blending them with modern techniques. The menu includes red and green borscht, five types of hand-molded dumplings, classic varenyky, seven types of lard, farm meat cooked over fire, and the signature Kyiv cake. On weekends, the chef prepares author’s borscht over an open flame. Every item reflects a sincere effort to honor and reinterpret traditional recipes.
Since 2017, the restaurant’s wine list has earned the Wine Spectator Award of Excellence each year. It features iconic wines from around the world alongside noteworthy Ukrainian producers such as Beykush, Colonist, Art Wine, Chizay, and Shabo. The vodka room houses the country’s largest collection of Ukrainian horilka, with about 100 types kept chilled in glass racks. The bar also mixes original cocktails, including a full line of Bloody Marys and a Gin Parsley Sour. Homemade tinctures, from horseradish to cherry and seasonal fruit infusions, are offered separately or in tasting sets.
Each hall can host private events, and small cozy rooms are available for intimate meetings. A small shop, Kramnytsia, stocks Ukrainian handicrafts, textiles, ceramics, and specialty food items like homemade tinctures and Carpathian herb teas. The entire experience is one of Ukrainian hospitality, grounded in the setting and the cooking.
