The story
In the Nad Al Sheba 1 neighborhood of Dubai, Gerbou offers a contemporary fine-dining experience rooted in the spirit of Arab welcome. The name itself, Arabic for “Welcome to our humble abode,” sets the tone for a restaurant that blends tradition with modern refinement. Curated by Tashkeel, an art and design consultancy, the restaurant is a collaboration that celebrates local heritage through food, design, and craftsmanship.
The culinary direction is led by Chef Ninad Naresh Salvi, whose experience in Michelin-starred kitchens brings depth to the kitchen. His approach blends traditional flavors with progressive techniques, transforming each dish into a narrative of cultural richness. The menu is guided by a philosophy of seasonality, simplicity, and locality, with ingredients sourced from nearby producers to support local agriculture and ensure peak freshness.
The restaurant’s design, a collaboration between Kristina Zanic Consultants and Tasmeem Tashkeel, brings the traditional into the contemporary. Every element, from the bespoke stoneware designed at the Tashkeel Pottery Studio to the commissioned artwork, tells a story of the UAE. The Nostalgic Heritage Series, featuring plate designs by artist Lateefa bint Maktoum, depicts iconic animals of the UAE—the falcon, Arabian horse, and camel—while Vera Meng’s artwork captures the indigenous Ghaf trees and desert rose of the surrounding landscape.
Gerbou’s commitment to quality and authentic Emirati cuisine has earned it a place in the Michelin Guide Dubai, where it is listed as a Recommended restaurant. This recognition underscores the restaurant's success in creating a dining experience that is both deeply local and globally refined. Whether for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, the restaurant offers a setting where the magic of Arab hospitality is felt in every detail.
