The story
The Angel Bakery has been shaping long-fermented sourdough and delicate pastries in Abergavenny since 2016. What began with two dedicated bakers now operates as a team of twenty, supplying morning deliveries across South East Wales while maintaining a steady rhythm at their Cross Street workshop. This gradual expansion allowed the kitchen to refine its slow fermentation methods without sacrificing consistency.
Guests regularly queue for the buttery cardamom bun, which carries a light sugar glaze that dissolves against warm pastry. The kitchen also produces thick slices of chocolate brioche and dense brownies that pair well with their daily pour-over coffees. Recognized recently as a Local Gem by the Good Food Guide, the bakery’s reputation rests heavily on those sourdough loaves, whose crusty exterior and tangy crumb have earned a dedicated following beyond the town centre.
A recently added seating area invites guests to rest beside shelves stocked with Welsh meats, organic ciders, and slowly preserved jams. Patrons commonly order focaccia-filled sandwiches or hot sourdough cheese toasties prepared fresh during the weekday lunch rush. The adjacent larder extends the bakery's offering into takeaway essentials, allowing visitors to collect weekend meal kits or browse the seasonal vegetable selection before heading back toward the Brecon Beacons.
