The story
Le Vin Perdu is a French bistro on West Street in Ashburton, Devon, that opens for a few weekends each month. The calendar is built around seasonal feasts, cocktail nights and guest pop-ups, so the experience changes regularly rather than following a fixed weekly schedule.
One example of the kitchen’s approach is a Tuscan Steak Weekend built around biodynamic beef from the nearby Apricot Centre, served with Tuscan-inspired dishes and wines. Another is an English Wine Week collaboration with Sandridge Barton, where local wines are paired with a set menu of produce-driven dishes – salted cream cheese with chard and dill, crab mayonnaise with shaved cucumber and fennel, Apricot Centre pork chop with braised yellow courgettes and oregano, baked Cornish mids with sage, and a strawberry and almond tart with pouring cream. The set menu is £45 per person.
Diners can choose between counter seating at the bar – which gives a direct view of the action – or a table. The atmosphere is relaxed and unpretentious, focused squarely on good food and good wine. The dining room is also available for private hire and private parties, making it a flexible space for celebrations or events.
The 2026 Michelin recommendation puts Le Vin Perdu on the map as a destination for French cooking in Devon, but it’s the kitchen’s commitment to local suppliers – Sandridge Barton wines, Apricot Centre produce – that gives the food its sense of place.
