The story
At Hansom in Bedale, North Yorkshire, chef Ruth Hansom leads a kitchen focused on seasonal, modern cuisine that draws from the finest local produce. The restaurant describes its offering as “a contemporary dining experience, combining only the finest produce from the land, earth & sea into a purposefully-designed epicurean adventure of luxury & provenance.” That ambition has earned the restaurant a Michelin Recommended citation for 2026.
Hansom’s tasting menus change with the seasons. The kitchen sources most ingredients from small, local suppliers, moving quickly with what is at its best and using alternative cuts to ensure whole animals are used. A vegetarian tasting menu is also available. For lunch on Fridays and Saturdays, a shorter lunch menu is offered alongside the full tasting experience. Most dietary requirements can be accommodated, but the restaurant asks to be informed before a visit.
On the last Sunday of each month, Hansom serves a sharing Sunday Lunch Feast between 12 and 2:30pm. This celebratory meal highlights the best of the current season’s local produce from Bedale and surrounding villages. Menus and bookings are released on the first Sunday of the month.
The restaurant’s wine and drinks lists are described as “exceptionally-curated,” designed to pair seamlessly with the tasting menus. The team also hosts occasional wine tasting events, such as a rosé evening featuring still and sparkling wines from England, Italy and Provence, paired with canapés and seafood platters.
Situated at 7-9 North End, Hansom is a dedicated dining room in the heart of Bedale. The space is contemporary and welcoming, suited to both intimate dinners and gatherings. The restaurant also caters for private parties and has outdoor seating.
