The story
Since 2003, Cassons has been a fixture in Tangmere, near Chichester, serving modern cuisine that draws a loyal local following. The restaurant is a family affair: Cass runs the front of house with his team, while chef Viv leads the kitchen, supported by Hannah, Sally and Kris. Their aim is straightforward – to give guests a memorable experience, one that turns first-time visitors into regulars.
Viv’s cooking is built on the principle that you eat with your eyes first, and the taste should exceed the expectation. The a la carte menu changes regularly, offering interesting and delicious dishes. On Sundays, the menu is joined by a roast loin of aged West Country beef with all the trimmings, all for £48.50 for three courses. The wine list, curated with Four Walls Wines in Chilgrove, covers a wide range of tastes and the team is happy to offer advice.
The restaurant has earned a Michelin Recommended award, a recognition that reflects the care and attention put into every plate. As one regular put it: the Michelin quality sauces and presentation make the food come alive. The atmosphere is relaxed, the service warm – you are treated as a guest, not just a customer.
Cassons is open Thursday to Saturday from 6.30pm for dinner, and Sunday lunch from 12pm. Forthcoming events include a Summer Tasting Menu on 17 July 2026.
