The story
In 2005, Pete and Louise Robinson took over a former butcher’s shop on Park Street and turned it into one of the Cotswolds’ most beloved dining spots. The Old Butchers has since become a must-visit destination for anyone passing through Stow-on-the-Wold, earning a Michelin Recommended award for its consistently excellent classic cuisine.
The atmosphere is casual yet inviting – a place where locals and travellers alike feel at home. The restaurant offers seating in the main dining room or on a heated, covered terrace, making it possible to enjoy a meal outdoors whatever the weather. The space is small and independent, with a maximum table size of six, which keeps the experience intimate and personal.
The menu is diverse, catering to all tastes without straying from the classic cuisine that defines the kitchen. While the specific dishes change seasonally, the focus remains on straightforward, well-executed food that lets the ingredients speak. The team’s commitment to quality is evident in every plate, and it’s this consistency that has earned the restaurant its Michelin recognition.
Pete and Louise’s philosophy extends to their team: they close for six weeks each year to ensure everyone – staff included – has time with family. This respect for work-life balance is rare and speaks to the genuine warmth that runs through the entire operation.
Open Tuesday to Saturday for lunch and dinner, with a few extended hours on Fridays and Saturdays, The Old Butchers is a reliable, welcoming spot for classic cuisine in the heart of the Cotswolds. Whether you’re a first-time visitor or a regular, you can expect a warm welcome and a memorable meal.
