The story
In the heart of Durham city, Jake and Laura Siddle have created their first restaurant, Faru. The name, taken from Old English for "journey," sets the tone for a dining experience that is both deliberate and rewarding. The restaurant has earned a Michelin recommendation, a testament to its focused, ingredient-driven approach.
The open kitchen is the heart of the space, where the team crafts a flavour-led menu built entirely around seasonal produce. Diners can choose between a lighter four-course menu or a more immersive tasting menu. The latter opens with a selection of snacks before unfolding into a series of carefully prepared dishes. Both options reflect the same philosophy: let the ingredients speak.
Faru also offers a set three-course menu for lunch and select dinner services, while Sundays are reserved for a three-course Sunday lunch, with an optional add-on of snacks to begin. Vegetarian versions of the tasting and four-course menus are available in advance, ensuring the kitchen has time to prepare a proper seasonal alternative.
The Siddles have created a space where comfort and precision meet. There is no dress code, and the atmosphere is relaxed yet refined — the kind of place where the food does the talking. Whether you choose the full tasting journey or a shorter menu, each plate reflects the kitchen’s commitment to modern British cuisine, rooted in the best produce of the moment.
