The story
Porth Tocyn presents a focused approach to modern British dining in Abersoch, where the Fletcher-Brewer family has worked for over seventy years. Henry Fletcher-Brewer and his wife Kelly manage operations today, gradually replacing chintz with a tasteful contemporary look as they update the interiors. They continue a lineage acknowledged by the Good Food Guide since 1957, balancing seasonal produce with established standards while keeping the Modern British focus clear across both casual lunches and styled dinners.
The dinner menu features pan-seared scallops with chorizo, cauliflower purée, roe fritters, and a herby passion-fruit dressing. Main courses turn to moist venison loin or a rack of Welsh lamb served with a miniature shepherd's pie, creamed leeks, and mint jus. Midday service shifts to a country house spirit, offering moules marinière, steak sandwiches, grilled fish, and a beautifully presented Sunday roast, while jars of homemade marmalade appear as souvenirs.
Drinks arrive amid gleaming dark wood and fresh soft furnishings, set against walls showing stormy landscapes. The dining room stays simple and expansive, opening onto well-established coastal gardens where guests overlook the water toward Snowdonia. Seventeen bedrooms decorate with country antiques and Egyptian cotton linens, offering super king-sized beds and views of Cardigan Bay, while self-catering cottages on the grounds provide extra space with access to hotel facilities.
