The story
Since 2011, Cúrate Bar de Tapas has been a portal to Spain in the heart of downtown Asheville. Founded by Chef Katie Button and Félix Meana, the restaurant is an all-day vermutería, jamonería, and wine bar that channels the lively tapas culture of Spain. The name itself—Cúrate, meaning “cure yourself”—sets the tone: a place where gathering over good food and wine is its own remedy.
Katie Button, a five-time James Beard Award nominee and Food & Wine Best New Chef (2015), brings culinary precision and creativity. Her partner Félix Meana, a Spanish-born hospitality veteran, previously led service at Ferran Adrià’s elBulli and helped open restaurants for José Andrés. Together, they built Cúrate on a foundation of genuine hospitality and a deep respect for Spanish traditions. The menu is guided by Spanish cuisine and seasonal Appalachian produce, resulting in pintxos, tapas, and raciones that feel both authentic and of the moment.
The menu highlights include a rotating selection from the Josper wood oven, daily paella, and an extensive jamón Ibérico program featuring Cinco Jotas. The beverage program, led by Wine Director Jessica Salyer, offers an all-Spanish wine list that reflects years of relationships with producers. The restaurant’s commitment to quality and hospitality has earned it a Michelin Recommended distinction, placing it among the best dining destinations in the region.
Beyond the dining room, Cúrate extends its spirit through a Spanish wine club, an online marketplace for pantry essentials, and curated culinary travel experiences. The team’s dedication to service and detail makes every visit feel like a celebration—whether you’re stopping in for a glass of vermouth and a plate of boquerones or settling in for a full tasting menu.
