The story
Mawa's Kitchen is the flagship restaurant of owner and executive chef Mawa McQueen, a James Beard Award semifinalist and recipient of the Colorado Governor's Minority Business Award. Located in the Aspen Airport Business Center, the restaurant is a MICHELIN Guide Recommended destination for its hyper-seasonal, globally inspired cooking.
The menu reflects Mawa’s international heritage, offering Afro-Mediterranean cuisine with a French-American flair. Ingredients are locally sourced and organic where possible, and the kitchen accommodates vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and other dietary preferences. Dinner service features a four-course tasting menu, while breakfast and lunch present American classics alongside dishes like Winter Spiced Gravlax and Fonio Blueberry Pancakes. Weekend brunch is accompanied by live jazz music.
The interior is warm and welcoming, with art pieces that honor Mawa’s roots and highlight local artists. A full-service bar serves cocktails made with house-made juices and a curated wine list. The scenic patio is open from late spring to early fall. Though off the beaten path, the restaurant is conveniently near the airport and downtown Aspen, with ample parking.
Beyond the dining room, Mawa’s Kitchen offers full-service event catering, private chef services, and bespoke in-flight dining for private aircraft out of Aspen Airport.
