The story
Omakase Table began as a pop-up inside various Atlanta restaurants while Chef Leonard Yu perfected his craft. He eventually settled in West Midtown for his flagship location, and today the restaurant operates two outposts: the original in West Midtown and a second in Buckhead.
Chef Yu approaches sushi as a discipline rooted in the values of purity, harmony, and balance. His fish are sourced predominantly from Japan and fine-tuned through techniques drawn from the Edomae tradition — aging, curing, and marinating — to create layers of depth, complexity, and umami. The techniques are grounded in tradition, with slight modern sensibilities.
“Unity and togetherness of fish and rice is fundamental to our beliefs and values,” the restaurant explains. “We feel the two should be like lovers with a deep sense of belonging to one another.” This philosophy drives every aspect of the menu: taste, timing, order, format, and context.
The West Midtown location offers a 14-course omakase experience, while Buckhead serves a more extensive 20-course menu. Both are seasonal, adjusting to what is in season and thriving. The restaurant’s philosophy is simple: “We serve simple things in the moment.”
Chef Yu’s path to sushi mastery was self-taught. After culinary school in Indonesia and stints in five-star hotels across Southeast Asia, he moved to New Jersey in 2010, where he began working in Japanese restaurants. He started from zero, learning everything from sharpening Japanese knives to washing and cooking rice using a donabe (Japanese clay pot). He never worked under a master — he considers himself a self-taught sushi chef. In 2017, he moved to Atlanta with his wife and eventually settled at Brush Sushi Izakaya before opening Omakase Table.
The restaurant’s dedication to precision and purity earned it a Michelin star in 2026, a recognition of its high-quality cooking. For those seeking an authentic Japanese omakase experience in Atlanta, Omakase Table delivers a deeply considered, Edomae-inspired meal.
