The story
At Maie Day, the steakhouse gets a refresh. Located in the South Congress Hotel in Austin, this restaurant from Chef Michael Fojtasek and MaieB Hospitality is a daily celebration of food and community — a place where prime cuts, thoughtful cocktails, and a genuinely friendly vibe come together on a lively neighborhood patio.
Chef Fojtasek, a MICHELIN Starred chef, draws on a deep well of experience. His path includes stints at Thomas Keller’s Per Se and The French Laundry Garden, as well as Jon Shook and Vinny Dotolo’s Son of a Gun in Los Angeles. At Maie Day, he applies that precision to a menu that reads like a traditional steakhouse but delivers something far more inventive. The MICHELIN Guide, which named Maie Day a Recommended Restaurant, described the cooking as "inventive and heartfelt at once."
Chef de Cuisine Nicholas Harrison brings his own perspective, born in Lafayette, Louisiana. His expertise lies in weaving Creole cuisine into Southern classics, adding layers of flavor and heritage to the menu. Together, the kitchen turns out dishes that have earned praise from Texas Monthly, which called the restaurant "the most unexpected steakhouse in town."
The atmosphere is casual and lively — always a party, as the team puts it. The patio is a neighborhood draw, and the bar menu and happy hour offer reasons to linger. For larger gatherings, a private dining room is available for company dinners, birthday feasts, and everything in between.
