The story
Bavette’s Bar & Boeuf occupies a corner on Kinzie Street in Chicago’s River North neighborhood. The restaurant welcomes walk-ins at the bar, where the full menu is served, and valet parking is available during dinner. Reservations open 21 days in advance.
The kitchen focuses on steakhouse classics, executed with care. Start with Baked Goat Cheese (circa 1992) with red sauce, fines herbes, and garlic bread, or a Tenderloin Steak Tartare with dijonnaise and slow-cooked egg. Chilled seafood towers – Grand, Shellfish, and Maude’s – make a showstopping start.
The main event is the beef: dry-aged bone-in ribeye (42 days), bone-in filet mignon, and a classic Chicago-cut ribeye. American Wagyu options from Snake River Farms include skirt steak frites and a 32-ounce porterhouse. Each steak is served with béarnaise and steak salt, with enhancements like peppercorn crust, maître d’butter, or warm king crab oscar.
Beyond steak, there’s Bavette’s Spiced Fried Chicken with mashed potatoes and cipollini gravy, a Double Cut Berkshire Pork Chop, and Shortrib Stroganoff. Sides are generous: creamed spinach with blue cheese, truffle mac & cheese, elote-style corn, and hand-cut pommes frites with garlic aioli.
Cocktails, wine, and spirits are listed separately, and the vegetarian menu includes mushroom fettuccine and a bibb & avocado salad.
Bavette’s Bar & Boeuf has earned a Michelin Recommended distinction, a nod to its consistent quality in the competitive Chicago steakhouse landscape. The restaurant is part of the Hogsalt hospitality group, which also operates a Bavette’s location in Las Vegas.
