The story
Kasama, in Chicago’s East Ukrainian Village, is the work of chefs Genie Kwon and Timothy Flores. It operates as both a daytime bakery and a fine dining destination, offering a single expression of modern Filipino cooking that has earned a Michelin 2 Star recognition.
During the day, Kasama runs as a casual counter service. The kitchen and dining room are open until 2pm, serving a savory menu alongside pastries that change daily. It’s a relaxed, walk-in experience—no reservations needed.
Thursday through Sunday evenings, the restaurant shifts to a reservation-only fine dining format. The tasting menu is priced at $325 per person, with an optional beverage pairing for $195 or a non-alcoholic pairing for $95. The menu is described as “fine dining Filipino inspired,” and the cooking reflects the chefs’ precise, personal take on their heritage.
Kasama’s approach—balancing an accessible daytime bakery with an ambitious, ingredient-driven tasting menu—has drawn wide acclaim. Its Michelin 2 Star award places it among the city’s most distinguished kitchens, a testament to the depth and consistency of Kwon and Flores’s vision.
