The story
Longman & Eagle is a contemporary take on a traditional Chicago inn, located in the Logan Square neighborhood. The restaurant, bar, and six-room lodging are the result of a collaboration between Land and Sea Dept. and 16” on Center. The space is designed to offer “considered, inspired drinking, eating and sleeping options,” a philosophy that guides everything from the menu to the whiskey list.
The kitchen, led by Executive Chef Alex Swieton, prioritizes local and sustainable produce and meat. The food offerings are available all day, with a dynamic menu that changes to reflect what’s in season. While the cuisine is listed as brunch, the kitchen also serves lunch and dinner, with a limited food menu in the afternoon. The ethos is straightforward: source well, cook simply, and let the ingredients speak. This commitment to quality and value earned Longman & Eagle a Michelin Bib Gourmand, a recognition that celebrates good food at a reasonable price.
Drinking at Longman & Eagle is rooted in the inn tradition. The bar program focuses on whiskey, with a curated selection that has been recognized by The Bourbon Review as one of America’s best bourbon bars. For a change of pace, the Off Site Bar (OSB) behind the restaurant hosts OSBeach, a tropical pop-up with playful riffs on classic cocktails and snacks that blend global flavors with Midwestern ingredients. Think Lake Trout Ragoon and Mushroom Katsu sandwiches, designed to be eaten with a drink in hand.
Since opening, Longman & Eagle has been named one of the best new restaurants in America by GQ and Esquire, and has held Michelin stars in previous years. Today, its Bib Gourmand status reflects a continued dedication to accessible, high-quality cooking in a setting that feels both relaxed and intentional. Whether you stop in for a weekend brunch, a late-night whiskey, or an overnight stay, Longman & Eagle remains a true Chicago original.
