The story
The Japanese concept of ichigo ichie—the treasuring of each unrepeatable encounter—guides everything at n/naka. Here, chefs Niki Nakayama and Carole Iida-Nakayama translate that fleeting beauty into a dining experience that feels both deeply traditional and distinctly Californian.
n/naka’s cuisine is a modern, seafood-focused exploration of kaiseki, the Japanese multi-course meal built on harmony, seasonality, and artistry. The 13-course menu showcases the finest ingredients from California and Japan’s land and sea, presented with the precision and restraint that define the form. Each dish honors the moment—the produce at its peak, the temperature of the evening, the quiet anticipation of the table.
This thoughtful approach earned n/naka a Michelin star, a nod to the kitchen’s consistent execution and the clarity of its vision. The dining room, with air conditioning and a private room for intimate gatherings, sets a serene stage. A notable sake list and curated wine pairings (from $195 to $395) complement the meal, while valet parking is available behind the restaurant.
Reservations are released on Tock every Sunday at 10 am for the week one month ahead, for parties of two to four. Single diners and larger groups should email directly. The restaurant is open Wednesday through Saturday for dinner only.
