The story
Heritage, on Northeast 5th Avenue, arrived with a clear purpose: to raise the bar. As one diner put it, “In a sea of Fort Lauderdale’s ‘meh’ restaurants… this is the type of place we desperately needed to raise the bar.” The kitchen, led by a young, hungry chef, delivers a New York vibe and stellar craftsmanship that quickly caught the attention of the Michelin guide, earning a Bib Gourmand for good quality, good value cooking.
The pizza program is the heart of Heritage. The menu reads like a love letter to New York slices, from the classic “The Bronx” – a traditional cheese pie – to “The Brooklyn” with cupping pepperoni. For those seeking something more inventive, there’s the Squash Blossom and Cold Pulled Burrata pizza or the Mortadella and Pistachio pie. Each is built on a well-executed crust, a testament to the kitchen’s focus on technique.
Heritage isn’t just about pizza. The antipasti section features dishes like mascarpone-stuffed squash blossoms with sherry marinara, and wagyu beef and veal meatballs over mascarpone polenta. Pastas are made in-house – the mafaldine bolognese and bucatini white clam are standouts. The Italian chopped salad, with its mix of lettuces, salami, and mortadella, is a hearty starter.
The dining room is open for lunch and dinner Wednesday through Sunday, and the energy is unmistakable. Guests describe it as bringing “that New York vibe” to South Florida – a place where the food is serious but the atmosphere is welcoming. Heritage is the first concept from Cerbone Hospitality, a brand development group that clearly knows what it’s doing.
For a pizza-focused restaurant that punches above its weight in both flavor and value, Heritage is a destination worth seeking out.
