The story
MP Taverna is Chef Michael Psilakis’s modern interpretation of a traditional Greek tavern, a vibrant staple of the Westchester dining scene. Located steps from the Metro North station and a stone’s throw from the Hudson River, the restaurant brings accessible, Greek-inspired fare into the American culinary lexicon. Psilakis’s stated goal is to put Greek cuisine on the culinary main stage – a vision that has earned MP Taverna a Michelin Recommended distinction.
The chef recommends dining the Greek way: start with meze for the table. Think octopus with a Mediterranean chickpea salad, a tomato salad with string beans and grilled onions, or signature dips like eggplant with roasted peppers and garlic. Entrées include grilled branzino with fingerling potatoes and olives, lamb shank with orzo and root vegetables, and a Greek paella of shellfish, spicy lamb sausage, and orzo. Simply grilled options – chicken, salmon, swordfish, and a daily fish – are also on offer.
For large groups, Psilakis honors the Greek tradition of roasting whole animals: baby lamb, suckling pig, kid goat, or a rack of prime rib steak, served family-style. These can also be ordered for pickup.
The restaurant occupies an 18th-century building whose original beams and rafters remain exposed, transformed by Michael David Associates. The 120-seat main dining room is separated from the bar by a mahogany wall with rectangular cut-outs. The bar area features ten rustic brass chandeliers and 13-foot ceilings. Outdoor seating is available in warmer months.
