The story
Dining at Fogo de Chão is about the rhythm of the meal. Gaucho chefs circulate the room with skewers of fire-roasted meats—Picanha, Fraldinha, Costela—carving directly onto your plate. The service is continuous, the pace yours to set. Alongside, the Market Table offers fresh vegetables, imported cheeses, and cured meats, while Bar Fogo serves Brazilian-inspired small plates and cocktails.
The founders grew up on a traditional farm in the mountainous Serra Gaucha region of southern Brazil, where they learned the art of churrasco over open flames. After formal training in Rio and São Paulo, they opened their first restaurant in Porto Alegre—a wood-built space that quickly drew politicians, businessmen, and celebrities. Expansion followed: São Paulo, then Dallas in 1997, and eventually a flagship in New York City. The Indianapolis location brings that same legacy of fire and hospitality to Washington Street.
Fogo de Chão’s commitment to wine excellence earned it a Wine Spectator Award of Excellence in 2009. The restaurant’s own Founders Tribute Wine Collection—featuring labels like Jorjão (Malbec) and O’Leão (red blend)—is crafted to pair with the grilled menu. Special events such as multi-course wine dinners, like the recent VIK Wine Dinner, showcase premium South American vintages alongside chef-curated cuts.
At its core, this is a Brazilian steakhouse driven by fire, family tradition, and a respect for ingredients—a place where the meal is both ceremony and comfort.
