Perched within The Sanctuary on Kiawah Island, The Ocean Room is the resort’s premier steakhouse. Overlooking the Atlantic, this Forbes Five-Star dining room serves a seasonally changing menu built around locally sourced beef, poultry, and produce. The kitchen, led by Chef de Cuisine Steven Brooks, balances the refinement of a classic steakhouse with the creativity of a chef who has cooked across continents.

Chef Brooks, a native of Germany, brings a global perspective to the table. His Heritage Dinner Series presents a rotating lineup of wine-paired tasting menus inspired by the culinary traditions of Western Europe, East and Southeast Asia, and North America. Each month explores a different region, starting with his own German roots. The series is an evolving journey that adds depth to the restaurant’s already compelling seasonal steakhouse offerings.

The dining room itself is elegant and opulent, with dress code expectations that match the setting—gentlemen are asked to wear long-sleeved collared shirts, dress slacks, and closed-toe shoes; jackets are recommended. The adjacent Ocean Room Lounge offers a more relaxed pace with the same full dinner menu and specially crafted seasonal cocktails.

The wine program is a standout. With more than 1,000 superior selections, the list earned a Wine Spectator Best of Award of Excellence in 2025. It’s designed to complement the menu’s focus on prime cuts like the 16-ounce USDA Certified Angus Beef Ribeye, 21-day wet-aged and often paired with house-made béarnaise sauce.
