L’Original, a Parisian Counter in Hollywood

Petit Trois L’Original opened in 2014 in a nondescript strip mall on Highland Avenue. Chef Ludo Lefebvre, a Burgundy-born chef trained under masters like Alain Passard and Pierre Gagnaire, created a space that feels less like Los Angeles and more like a classic Parisian bistro. The dining room is deliberately small—just 21 seats at a counter wrapped around an open kitchen. Guests watch every plate come together, from the melt-in-your-mouth Omelette Petit Trois (filled with Boursin cheese) to the Burgundy Escargot, a dish that turns a simple classic into something quietly opulent.

The Big Mec, a double cheeseburger on a toasted bun, was voted Best Burger in America in 2016 and remains a destination dish for locals and visitors alike. The menu is short, focused, and deeply French—each ingredient sourced with care, each technique rooted in classical training. The restaurant’s wine list is award-winning, and the cocktail program highlights French spirits and aperitifs.

Petit Trois earned a James Beard Award nomination for Best New Restaurant in 2015 and received a Bib Gourmand from the Michelin Guide in 2019 when the guide returned to Los Angeles. It continues to hold a Michelin Recommended designation, a recognition of its consistent quality and singular dining experience. The late Jonathan Gold included Petit Trois on his 101 Best Restaurants in Los Angeles list multiple times.

For those seeking a more spacious setting, Petit Trois Le Valley opened in Sherman Oaks in 2018, offering a lavish brasserie atmosphere with a marble bar, banquet seating, and a chef’s counter. But the original Hollywood location remains the purest expression of Ludo Lefebvre’s vision: a tiny, unpretentious counter where French cuisine is served with precision and warmth.
