The story
After decades of acclaim in Phoenix, Chris Bianco has opened a second home for his Italian-American pizzeria in Downtown Los Angeles. The space, located at the Row DTLA, is an adaptive reuse of a former coffee roaster and café. Where the roasting machine once stood, a wood-burning oven now takes center stage, visible through a large window that lets diners watch pizzas being made.
The menu mirrors Pizzeria Bianco’s Heritage Square location, featuring the six signature pies that regulars have come to love. Small plates, salads, and sides round out the offerings, while a focused list of food-friendly wines and beers complements the pizza. The cooking stays true to Bianco’s philosophy: respect for ingredients and sincere intention in every recipe.
For Chris, the food has always been about relationships—with farmers, local producers, his family, customers, and staff. That approach has earned him two James Beard Awards (Best Chef: Southwest in 2003 and Outstanding Restaurateur in 2022) and a featured episode on Netflix’s Chef’s Table: Pizza. His book, Bianco: Pizza, Pasta and Other Food I Like, distills his methods for the home cook.
In 2026, the Michelin guide awarded Pizzeria Bianco a Bib Gourmand, recognizing its good quality, good value cooking. It’s a fitting nod to a pizzeria that helped spark the artisanal pizza movement—and now brings that legacy to Los Angeles.
