The story
In Los Angeles’ Historic Filipinotown, Rasarumah serves Malaysian and Southeast Asian-inspired dishes, drinking food, and tropical cocktails. Chef Johnny Lee leads the kitchen, offering a menu that balances bold flavors with approachable comfort.
The space is relaxed and welcoming, with walk-ins always welcome. A daily happy hour until 6pm features $10 martinis and mai tais alongside a $12 rendang beef roll—a perfect introduction to the cooking.
The menu is built for sharing. Start with the Pu Pu Platter, a selection of mushroom and chicken skewers, samosas, and crab rangoon. The Sambal Trio offers three sambals with shrimp chips for dipping. Skewers—chicken meatball with peanut sauce, char siu pork jowl, or king oyster mushrooms with green nam jim—are $5 each.
House specialties include Char Koay Kak (crispy rice cakes with fried egg and chili crisp) and Char Kway Teow, the classic stir-fried rice noodles with Chinese sausage and shrimp. The Fried Hainan Chicken pairs crispy thigh with garlic rice and ginger scallion oil. For something richer, Wagyu Beef Cheek Rendang is slow-braised and served with pickles, raita, and roti.
Desserts lean Southeast Asian: Cendol Sundae with coconut pandan ice cream, pandan jelly noodles, and gula melaka syrup; or Passion Fruit Cream Pie.
Cocktails are tropical-leaning. The Calamansi Mai Tai uses Planteray rums and calamansi; the Pandan Colada blends pineapple and pandan. A Sichuan Negroni and Black Tea Highball offer variety. Wine, sake, and beer are also available.
Rasarumah earned a Michelin Bib Gourmand in 2026, recognizing its quality and value. It’s a place where you can settle in for a full meal or just a few snacks and a well-made drink.
