The story
At Yong Su San in Los Angeles, the past is not a distant memory but a living, breathing part of the dining experience. The restaurant’s name, meaning “dragon water mountain,” references a peak in Kaesung, the ancient capital of the Koryo Dynasty. This is the birthplace of Master Chef and founder Sang Oak Choi, who mastered the refined techniques of both Kaesung and Royal Court cooking—a style that has become rare, even in Korea.
Yong Su San specializes in Hanjeonsik, a traditional Korean course meal that once graced the tables of kings. The restaurant’s dedication to this authentic, elevated cuisine has earned it a Michelin recommendation, a recognition that underscores its place among the finest Korean dining experiences in Greater Los Angeles. From the Korean president to Hollywood celebrities, guests have come to savor this culinary heritage.
The atmosphere is designed for both intimacy and grand occasions. A main dining hall is complemented by ten private rooms that can accommodate from two to forty guests at no additional charge. For larger celebrations, banquet halls are available for business meetings, wedding rehearsals, and birthday parties. The restaurant has also catered major events, including the Korea Times Korean Music Festival at the Hollywood Bowl and performances by K-pop artists at the Nokia Theatre and Staples Center.
While the menu is rooted in tradition, a party menu is available upon request, and the restaurant has participated in events like DineLA Restaurant Week. At Yong Su San, every meal is an invitation to experience the depth and grace of royal Korean cuisine.
