The story
Since opening in 2016, Altro Paradiso has become an essential New York City dining destination. From globally acclaimed chef Ignacio Mattos, this Italian restaurant in SoHo draws inspiration from several Italian regions, celebrating timeless craftsmanship throughout its menu. The restaurant has garnered many devoted regulars, from neighborhood residents to travelers who treat the place like a second home whenever they are in town.
The room itself contributes to the lively nightly atmosphere. High ceilings, a glimmering brass bar, marble floors, and white-oak accents define the main dining space. A sunken dining room, three steps below ground level, features banquettes and a slender porthole into the kitchen. Outside, a blue-striped awning extends over the sidewalk to cover a dozen tables lined with white tablecloths for al fresco dining.
Chef de Cuisine Eze Unger leads the kitchen, while General Manager Brice Barry oversees the front of house. The restaurant’s commitment to quality and atmosphere has earned it a Michelin Recommended distinction, a natural recognition for a kitchen that treats Italian cuisine with both respect and creativity. Whether for a lunch, an aperitivo hour, or a full dinner, Altro Paradiso offers a consistently warm and polished experience in one of Manhattan’s most vibrant neighborhoods.
