Amali NYC: Award-Winning Italian & Mediterranean Restaurant on East 60th Street

For more than a decade, Amali has anchored a corner of East 60th Street with a style its team describes as “an intimate uptown restaurant with a downtown soul.” The cooking is Italian-leaning Mediterranean, drawing on the shared culinary traditions of Greece, Italy, France, and Spain. Vegetables, olive oil, cheese, grains, and fish take center stage, reflecting an ethos inspired by the Mediterranean way of life.

The kitchen works with small farmers, purveyors, and fishermen, so the menu changes frequently. Dinner might begin with a Mezze Platter of roasted garlic hummus, butternut squash with za’atar, melitzana, and spicy feta, or move straight to crudo—fluke with citrus and sumac, or tuna carpaccio with avocado and yuzu. Pastas include tagliolini with mushroom ragu, linguine with Long Island and razor clam vongole, and agnolotti stuffed with veal, artichoke, and spinach. Larger plates range from roasted chicken with foie gras jus to Colorado lamb chops with black garlic molasses, and entrees for two such as Canary Island branzino or a Happy Valley ribeye with bone marrow gratin.

Amali’s wine list holds nearly 400 selections and has earned Wine Spectator’s Best of Award of Excellence every year since 2012. The New York Times has called the list “daring,” while New York Magazine considers it “one of the best Mediterranean selections in Midtown.” The beverage program highlights organic and biodynamic producers, both iconic and under-the-radar.

The same hospitality extends to private dining, with three distinctive spaces that pair the food and wine program with gatherings of every scale.
