The story
In New York City's West Village, Nami Nori reimagines the sushi experience around a single, focused craft: the open-style hand roll. This is a casual yet refined temaki bar, born from the vision of partners Taka Sakaeda and Jihan Lee. Both trained in some of Japan's most exacting kitchens, they set out to build a space that feels both inclusive and uncompromising in quality—a place where creative experimentation lives alongside respect for tradition.
The menu is built around signature temaki, including crunchy variations and modern riffs on the classics, alongside a dedicated vegan section. Each roll is designed to be fun to eat and visually tempting, delivering a new flavor in every bite. The experience is rounded out with Japanese-inspired snacks and appetizers, plus a curated selection of signature cocktails, beer, sake, and wine.
The design of the West Village location evokes the relaxed comfort of a beach house—light, airy, and a calm respite from the energetic streets outside. It is a place meant to be shared with friends, old and new.
This commitment to quality, value, and a welcoming atmosphere earned Nami Nori a Michelin Bib Gourmand, recognizing it as a spot for good quality, good value cooking. It is Japanese cuisine made for everyone, served in a setting that balances elegance with ease.
